Thomas Grünfeld - Young Steerer (junger Lenker)

Hidde van Seggelen Gallery is pleased to present Young Steerer (junger Lenker), an exhibition by Thomas Grünfeld in his first solo show at the gallery. New works from his tactile felt series are joined by Grünfeld’s influential Misfits series and by wall-based Augenbilder (Eye Paintings).
The Misfits series, Grünfeld’s composite taxidermy creations, explore the human conflation of life form and object. Following in the footsteps of the Victorian fascination with zoology and collecting, works such as misfit (Bulldog/goat), 2011 revel in the paradoxes of the humanisation of the natural world. Playing upon the histories of taxonomy and crossbreeding, Grünfeld’s Frankenstein creations function as shorthand for the kind of human intervention that, over thousands of years, turned a wolf into a Chihuahua.
