Volkhardt Muller - Any High Street

Provocative, quirky, fascinating, Volkhardt Müller’s work draws on a range of media and techniques, including printmaking, video, 3D installation and performance.
Müller’s new work takes the people and places of Exeter as inspiration to make objects that capture and condense the movements of the city. His observations cast a light on contemporary life in Exeter and beyond. They are the results of a quiet surveillance of public spaces, both disturbing and melancholic as well as revelatory.
The artworks Cell and Pastoral II are transcripts of two decommissioned prison cells at Rougemont Castle, the former Crown Court in Exeter near to RAMM. For Cell the walls of one cell were printed on translucent Japanese paper using intaglio process, then re-assembled to scale. Pastoral II is a performative record of the site-specific work Pastoral, captured through a collage of handheld camera work and projected within the gallery.
Müller has been living in the UK for ten years. He frequently collaborates with other artists and has exhibited across the UK and Germany.
